Implementing a Reward System: It is imperative that teachers use some form of reward system along with the built-in class stars to motivate the student through positive reinforcement and make the student aware when expectations aren’t met. The teacher’s system can be physical or even verbal for higher level students, but they should make certain that the student fully understands it and can track the system throughout a class. This is okay, as long as the teacher remains positive and explains why it is happening. Rewards can be praised for content accomplishments, correct answers, close answers for trying, good effort, and improvements over time. Teachers never, under any circumstance, take away rewards for incorrect answers.

Teachers will also need to adjust their pace according to student needs. Different students will need to spend different amounts of time on each slide. When this happens, teachers should focus on achieving the lesson’s learning objectives on each slide. The learning objectives are found in the classroom for every lesson. Lights are just right, my whiteboard is behind me, my reward system and props are on either side of me, and I can’t help but be brimming with confidence. Teachers are highly respected professionals in China, it’s essential that teachers represent themselves, their country, and their profession in the best way possible. Lighting. A classroom that is too dark or too bright is detrimental to a student’s learning. Using multiple light sources like lamps, room lights, or even candles gives teachers options for lighting. Distance is important for a good teacher will utilize the camera for improved teaching. For example: moving closer to the camera to emphasize correct pronunciation or moving away when using arms to teach.

Complementing a Reward System

In addition to a reward system, there are several techniques at a teacher’s disposal that can get students back on track:

  • Teacher Says: The teacher gives an action command and the student must do the action. This is done repeatedly, faster and faster each time a command is given.
  • Sequence Dance: The teacher starts with one action. The student does the action and adds another. The teacher and student alternate adding actions until one can’t remember the sequence.
  • Freeze: The teacher gives an action command and the student does this action until the teacher says “freeze.” Once the teacher says “freeze” the student must stop in place. Repeat.
